Kenya Rugby Partners With SportPesa
It is the Kenya Rugby Union’s pleasure to announce a strategic partnership agreement with SportPesa. The agreement sees SportPesa come on board as the Kenya Rugby Union’s headline partner.
This announcement marks a strategic alliance between two progressive and recognizable brands in their respective fields. The partnership will see the development of our national squads such as the Kenya 15s, U19s and Women’s squad. We are delighted that SportPesa have agreed to further support our development performance pathway as well as the Get Into Rugby Programs. On the same note, this will ensure our national squads can fulfill their high performance needs to improve on results. The partnership includes a performance based incentive/bonus program for our 15s, U19s and Women’s during international assignments.
The primary motive for striking the deal is that both brands coincide in their dedication to the sustainability of the programs and growth of the game, as well as the shared values of performance, leadership, and player welfare, which will allow both entities to emotionally connect with the players who have given so much of themselves to popularity of the sport.
KRU Chairman Richard Omwela, in his remarks, said, “We are pleased that the partnership touches on the very core of our rugby development and sustainability. Kenya Rugby is destined for rapid growth, something that ties in well with SportPesa’s ambition to steer the country to greater global rugby heights.”
SportPesa’s Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri said, “this is a great occasion for SportPesa. It marks the genesis of a long term and splendid partnership with Kenya Rugby union. The idea of this partnership is to put dedicated resources behind each national team to ensure that there is depth and sustainability at all levels of KRU so that our selectors have a rich pool of talents to draw from our national teams. ”
“We are confident that our 5 years sponsorship of Kshs 607 Million will grow the game as we aspire to steer Kenyan Rugby to desirable levels globally. The sport remains one of the biggest crowd-puller in Kenya with exhilarating display of rugby artistry. All in all, we believe that by the end of the 5 years, we will have groomed the next generation of rugby stars, over and above, whipping up the enthusiasm of players locally and at international stage,” he concluded.
