KINGS PLAYERS INVITED TO A SPRINGBOK SEVENS ACADEMY
EP Kings contracted players Shakes Soyizwapi and Davron Cameron are attending a Springbok Sevens Academy pre-departure camp which is being held in Stellenbosch this week.
The camp is a prelude to selecting the Springbok Sevens Academy touring team, which will leave for Europe on June 8 and play a series of matches in Rome and Geneva until June 22.
Soyizwapi has been a regular at fullback for the EP Kings in recent seasons, while backline player Cameron, who is with the Saru Kings Academy, was signed up by the EP Kings after matriculating from Kingswood in Grahamstown in 2014.
The Springbok Sevens Academy squad is likely to be a mixture of some regular Blitz Bokke players and fringe sevens contenders as the national selectors begin to prepare for an important sevens programme later this year.
Not only will the selectors by assessing players for the annual World Sevens Series competition, they will also be building the best squad to represent South Africa at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Sevens rugby will be making its first appearance as an Olympics sport after rugby was last played at the Games in the 15-man format in 1924.
