Q: The tournament didn’t turn out as you may have hoped. What have you and the boys gotten out of the competition as a whole?

A: Well we came in as a young team, a lot of the boys fresh out of school. There’s such a massive rugby culture here in South Africa so they can take back with them an understanding of the game at a higher level.

Q: You’ve been in Cape Town for almost 4 weeks now. What have you boys been doing in your spare time?

A: We’ve been enjoying the scenery. We went up to Table Mountain and visited Robben Island. And we’ve eated out a lot.

Q: Tell us more about your road up until now. When did you first start playing professionally?

A: I started rugby in South Australia, a very non-prominent rugby state. I came through the school system and started training with the 7’s program. Then joined the Reds and haven been there for 2 years.

Q: Your best moment in rugby to date?

A: The Queensland Reds winning the Super Rugby Title.

Q: What motivates you?

A: When you play rugby there’s so much pride and passsion involved. It’s such an honour to have captained my country in this tournament.

Q: Growing up, who was your role model?

A: George Smith

Q: Any qualifications outside of rugby?

A: I’m studying a Bachelor of Business, but it’s a very slow road as I am pretty much studying quarter time.

Q: What do you want to do when your rugby career is over?

A: I’ve got an interest in PR and obviously in business, but I also really enjoy fishing. So if I can do any of those things I’ll be happy.

Q: Favourite food?
A: Sushi

Q: Favourite music?
A: Tracy Chapman

Q: Favourite colour?
A: Yellow

Q: Favourite holiday destination?
A: Italy

Q: Favourite movie?
A: I’m not much of a movie man, but I’ll have to say Contraband.

Q: What is your nickname?
A: Gilly or Trev. There was a great rugby league player, Trevor Gillmeister. So basically it comes from there.

Q: What other sports to you enjoying playing or watching?

A: I love cricket. And rugby league.

Q: When on tour, who is the best player to share a room with and why?

A: Probably Edward Quirk. We get along very well.

Q: You’re stuck on a deserted island. Name 3 things you will take with you.

A: A fishing rod, probably Eddie, and my headphones.

Q: If hollywood had to make a movie about your life, which actor would star as you?

A: Haha I back myself as an actor. Probably the guy from Contraband, Mark Wahlberg.

Q: What would we find in your fridge right now?
A: A lot of ice cream, chocolate and tuna.

Q: Tell us something about you that no one knows.
A: I’m a bit of a nerd, I don’t mind studying. I don’t watch much TV or movies, I like being outdoors.
