Lions and Stormers dominate Stats
Vodacom Rugby App Review – Round 16:
The Emirates Lions and the DHL Stormers did not only produce high-intensity action in their respective Vodacom SupeRugby victories over the weekend but also dominated the statistics on the Vodacom Rugby App.
Stormers midfield combination of Damian de Allende and Juan de Jongh proved to be the most effective as they were influential in their side’s 42-12 rout of the Cheetahs in Cape Town.
For his 14 Carries, De Jongh’s six Clean Breaks were the most this weekend while De Allende is second to his midfield partner with four and sharing the same amount of carries.
Emirates Lions wing Ruan Combrinck was a menace in his side’s win over the Waratahs in Johannesburg with his brace of tries.
He also made four clean breaks over the weekend along with another Stormers flyer Dillyn Leyds as four South African players topped this category.
The Cell C Sharks’ Lwazi Mvovo ran an incredible 178 metres over the weekend with Combrinck covering the second most with his 116m.
De Allende bamboozled the Cheetahs’ defence this weekend getting the better of 10 defenders to top the stats in this category.
Lions flanker Jaco Kriel proved it was not only backline players that get past the opposition with fancy footwork and a surge of pace.
He was second in the Defenders Beaten category along with Nemani Nadolo (Crusaders), Scott Higginbotham (Rebels), and Taqele Naiyaravoro (Waratahs) with seven each.
Kriel was also solid on defence along with team-mate Warwick Tecklenburg with the duo making 18 tackles along with the Cheetahs’ Tienie Burger.
Cheetahs loose forward Boom Prinsloo executed 23 tackles to top the rankings while the Force’s Matt Hodgson made 19 for the second most over the weekend.
Making five turnovers against the Waratahs, Kriel is also top-ranked player in the Turnovers Won bracket.
