Joe Davies is the latest Dragons player to commit his future to the Welsh Region by signing a new three-year contract.

Davies joins the list of players to recently extend their contracts alongside Welsh Internationals Elliot Dee and Leon Brown as well as promising centre Jack Dixon, demonstrating the Dragons commitment to retain their home-grown talent.

The 22-year-old began playing his rugby at Caldicot RFC before moving into the Dragons Academy set-up. Capped by Wales U20’s the Lock has also played for Principality Premiership side Bedwas where he learnt his trade under the watchful eyes of Steve Law and Ian Gardner. This season the 19 stone 6ft 6 youngster has had a string of matches for the Dragons making nine appearances in the first half of the 2017/18 season.

“I wanted to stay at the Region because this is where I grew up and where I live, my family all live here and it’s a place I call home, it’s my home Region,” explained Davies. “The community around the Dragons is very supportive and I didn’t want to leave that.

“We are continually progressing as a team and have come so far in a short amount of time. I have learnt a lot from Bernard so far and I wanted to continue that.”

He continued: “I think the future is very positive for us, during the first half of the season we have played great rugby and showed what we can do and we’ve only had a short amount of time to show it.

“Looking forward my goal is to keep playing and improving myself and the team, I feel I have a lot more to give to the game and the club.”

Dragons Head Coach, Bernard Jackman added: “Joe is a local lad that has come through our Under 18s programme right through to the senior team.

“Due to some injuries he hasn’t had an easy path to professional rugby but now he is getting a run of games he has shown how much potential he has.

“Joe is one of the most powerful men in Welsh rugby and I am looking forward to seeing that destructive power in a Dragons shirt for the next 3 seasons and hopefully beyond.”
