LOFTUS VERSFELD TO HOST NORTHAM PLATINUM PLATTELAND CHALLENGE DAY
In an exciting new initiative the Northam Platinum Platteland Challenge will take place at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 3 September 2022.
According to Willem Strauss, president of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU), this initiative forms part of the BBRU’s strategy to make club rugby relevant and to create pathways to provincial and professional rugby for players from amateur structures of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union.
“I would like to thank Northam Platinum and their CEO, Mr Paul Dunne, not only for the sponsorship of the Platteland Challenge but also for their contribution to amateur rugby at the Blue Bulls Rugby Union for many years,” said Strauss.
The Limpopo teams and the Blue Bulls Platteland teams are selected from players in the President, Reserve and Limpopo leagues.
Players from the professional World Sports Betting Carlton League clubs were in action earlier this year when Loftus 200 beat the professional Tel Aviv Heat team from Israel, a match that also took place at Loftus Versfeld.
According to Paul Dunne, CEO of Northam Platinum: “Northam Platinum is excited to be sponsoring the Platteland Day. With this initiative we hope to help uncover talent amongst those players who don’t always have a platform which provides exposure for further development. We look forward to the event, as well as the successes that come from it.”
Strauss added that the alignment of structures at the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, with a shared strategy and vision, has made a major contribution to the success of the Vodacom Bulls on all levels during the last couple of years.
Gert Smal, in his new role as Pathway Development and Training Coordinator, will keep a keen eye on the players in action. No less than 15 players from the World Sports Betting Carlton League last season received contracts from professional unions, which included Sydney Tobias that was contracted by the Vodacom Bulls.
Dr Eugene Hare, CEO of the BBRU, confirmed the programme for the day, which is as follows:
12:00 SA U21: Vodacom Bulls vs Sharks
14:00 Northam Platinum Challenge: Limpopo South vs Blue Bulls Platteland
16:00 Blue Bulls Platteland XV vs Limpopo North
