All Out Rugby App Weekly Stats Review: Round 3

14 MARCH 2016 – Toyota Cheetahs flyhalf Niel Marais made a massive impact for his side in their first victory of the 2016 Vodacom Super Rugby competition while also featuring prominently in the statistics on the All Out Rugby App.

In only his first start of the season Marais shone for his side contributing 22 points to the score line which included a brace of tries, three conversions, and two penalty goals.

Chiefs pivot Damian McKenzie topped the Points category with the 28 he scored in his side’s 58-24 victory over the Southern Kings.

Marais cracked the top five Metres Run statistics making 114 metres and beating eight defenders to share top spot with three other players in the Defenders Beaten category.

Emirates Lions flyer Ruan Combrinck continues with his superb form bamboozling five defenders over the weekend which ranks him third in the category.

The Cell C Sharks’ hard-working flanker Marcell Coetzee also had a blinder in his side’s narrow victory over the DHL Stormers.

Coetzee and Stormers centre Juan de Jongh each won three turnovers sharing second place on the list with Brumbies flanker David Pocock, with the Southern Kings’ Chris Cloete topping the stats with five.

The Sharks player also made it into the top five Tackles rankings where he executed 17 in the match with Matt Hodgson of the Force and the Hurricanes’ Mark Abbott sharing first spot with 21 each.

Lions centre Howard Mnisi’s 16 carries over the weekend was the most by a South African player while Stormers stalwart Schalk Burger was behind him with one less, while the Blues’ George Moala lead the pack with 20 carries.

South African players were once again a dominant force in the lineouts with Stormers lock Pieter-Steph du Toit sharing the top spot in the Lineouts won on own throw category with Josh Bekhuis, with eight apiece.

Cheetahs lock Francois Uys is second with seven, while JC Astle of the Kings shares the fourth spot with the Brumbies’ Sam Carter with five each to their names.
