Marcel van der Merwe in first Blue Bulls outing
Tight head prop Marcel van der Merwe will make his long awaited debut for the Vodacom Blue Bulls in a friendly match against the MTN Golden Lions at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
Van der Merwe joined the Vodacom Blue Bulls last year, but has been recovering from a knee operation since.
The team to play the Lions are part of their preparations for the Vodacom Super Rugby play-offs; also include a number of Junior Springboks who recently participated in the Junior World Championship in France.
Francois Venter also makes a comeback after a groin operation.
The team is: Clayton Blommetjies, Jesse Kriel, Ulrich Beyers, Francois Venter, Travis Ismaiel, Handrè Pollard, Rudy Paige, Jean Cook, Jacques du Plessis, Shaun Adendorff, Dennis Visser, Schalk van Heerden, Marcel van der Merwe, Willie Wepener, Dawie Steyn. Die span word deur Pine Pienaar afgerig en sluit verskeie van die Junior Springbokke in wat verlede maand aan die IRR se Junior Wêreldbeker Kampioenskap deelgeneem het.
Die senter Francois Venter maak ook sy verskyning na ‘n lies-operasie hom vir ‘n paar maande van die veld gehou het.
