Megapro renews commercial agreement with the Lions
Sponsorship specialists Megapro this week renewed its commercial agreement with the Golden Lions Rugby Union for further five years. The association is an extension of a long-standing relationship between the organisations dating back to 1988.
With the Lions determined to reclaim their rightful place in Super Rugby, the renewal of the agreement serves as an important step in the union remaining a strong force in South African rugby. Despite a series of challenges facing the union in the last few months, there have also been exciting developments with Altmann Allers becoming an equity partner and the Lions Challenge proving to be a success.
The Johannesburg-based team has won three of their Lions Challenge matches up to now against Russia, the Cheetahs and the Southern Kings, but they stumbled against the Bulls at Orlando Stadium in the Gauteng Rugby Cup.
They will face French club Mont de Marsan on March 16 and then head to California and Vancouver for a two-week tour before returning to SA for the second half of their campaign.
Commenting on the renewal of the contract, Megapro Chief Operating Officer Simon Franklin said: “The Lions and their home ground, Ellis Park, have a rich heritage in South African rugby and we are determined to see that history continue. In light of that and the fantastic relationship we have shared with the Golden Lions Rugby Union over many years, it is a pleasure to continue our association with them.”
