Menlopark beats Zwartkops

Menlopark played Zwartkops in a BEELD game on Friday evening. Menlopark won the encounter 26-16.

It was an interesting evening. Before the kick-off of the 1st team game, the power supply to part of our school’s neighbourhood went down, and so did the spray lights of our A-field. We are blessed that our B-field also has proper lighting and apparently draws power off a different reticulation system, and it was decided to let the game take place there rather than postponing it within a full fixture program. It then so happened that our A-team played a main feature on the B-field for the first time in history

As mentioned we won the game 26-16. Good constructive rugby was played, and it was once again a privilege to experience a solid game of school rugby. This was a great result after our unnecessary slip-up last week against Noordheuwel, especially given the fact that Noordheuwel won Zwartkops 19-16 in the PUK tournament earlier this season. School rugby remains more exciting and a greater experience than any senior rugby can be…..Just my opinion….

Our other teams are constantly performing well. This bodes well for the future of Menlopark rugby, and we look forward to continuous good performance in the years to come. Their results were:

  • U/14: Menlopark won 22-0
  • U/15: Menlopark won 24-10
  • U/16: Menlopark won 40-0
  • 2nd team: Menlopark won 12-0
  • 1st team: Menlopark won 26-16

In winning their games in the respective age groups, Menlopark is positioned in 1st place in our leg of the Blue Bulls league (Waterkloof, Centurion, Garsfontein and Eldoraigne being in the other legs) in each age group. The play-offs start next weekend. We will host Garsfontein with our 1st team (we won them earlier this season) as well as with our u/16’s on Saturday. Our u/14’s and u/15’s will host Eldoraigne also on Saturday.
