Michelle Thomsen appointed to QRU Board
Corporate and Commercial lawyer Michelle Thomsen has been appointed to the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) Board.
Thomsen’s appointment, to fill a casual vacancy until the QRU’s next General Meeting, rounds out a new-look QRU Board which has undergone partial renewal over the past six months.
In March, finance directors Mark Stanton (elected) and James Beirne (appointed) joined the Board, while in May, former Wallabies captain Nathan Sharpe was added to the Board as the Player Appointed Director.
QRU Chairman Damien Frawley said: “Michelle will be an excellent addition to this Board given her significant experience in the world of corporate law and governance. Her appointment concludes the QRU’s recent work in ensuring we have the appropriate mix of skills, experience and sports industry knowledge represented on our Board, so we can deliver on our strategic aims over the next four years.”
Brisbane-born Thomsen, 40, is currently Group Executive, General Counsel and Company Secretary at the Bank of Queensland.
Prior to her current role, she held a number of in-house and private practice roles, including general counsel positions for two funds listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. She was a Partner at SJ Berwin LLP (now King & Wood Mallesons) in London, prior to returning to Australia in 2012.
Thomsen has over 15 years’ experience specialising in corporate and commercial law, with a particular focus on transactional and corporate advisory work, most recently in the financial services sector.
