The Golden Lions Rugby Union announced the MTN Lions team to play in the first match of the 2012 Vodacom Super Rugby competition against the Toyota Cheetahs on Saturday, 25 February 2012 at a media launch this afternoon.

The preseason training has been difficult, but the team management is happy with the progress and developments made by the players.

Three MTN Lions will be making their Super Rugby debut on Saturday against the Toyota Cheetahs – Hendrik Roodt, Callie Visagie and Tian Meyer. Stephan Greeff could also make his debut depending on the status of a knee injury to Wikus van Heerden. CJ van der Linde, although a seasoned Super Rugby participant, will make his debut for the MTN Lions on Saturday.

Head Coach John Mitchell will announce on Friday, 24 February as to whether Wikus van Heerden (knee injury) or Hendrik Roodt will start, and whether Jacobie Adriaanse (concussion) or CJ van der Linde will start on the bench.
