Ulster have announced that experienced Sharks and South Africa lock Johann Muller will move to Belfast after the 2010 Super 14.

Muller, 23 times a Springbok, towers over most at 6’7″ and bulldozes most with an impressive 114kg frame.

He has made 130 appearances for the Sharks, captaining them over the past two seasons, the same length of contract he has signed with Ulster for, which leaves him all but out of contention for the 2011 World Cup.

It is Ulster’s first new signing ahead of the 2010/11 season, delighting Director of Rugby David Humphreys.

“Ulster Rugby is looking forward to welcoming another world class South African forward to Belfast for the next two seasons.

“A line-out specialist and respected captain, Johann will add a hard edge to a pack that, under Brian McLaughlin and Jeremy Davidson, has become increasingly competitive over the past few months.

“A lot has been spoken about the potential and the youth of this current Ulster squad and we are committed to signing foreign players who, like Johann, have the ability to improve our performances on the pitch but also help develop these young players into Ulster and Ireland stars of the next decade.”
