New appointment at Steval Pumas
The 40-year old Mouneimne, played a crucial role in several team performances, both nationally and internationally After a brief visit to Mbombela Stadium last week, Mouneimne agreed to take up the position as High Performance Co- ordinator (specialising in defence, kicking and breakdowns) at the Steval Pumas, and will mainly focus on the 2015 Currie Cup. He will join the rest of the coaching staff on Monday, 4 May.
“I feel that the Pumas have a lot of potential and I am excited about trying to add value to the team and management. I’m an enthusiastic rugby fanatic and believe, with our combined efforts, the Steval Pumas can reach far higher achievements,” Mouneimne said.
A condensed coaching CV of Mouneimne:
- He co-coached the 2006/2007 BlitzBokke with Paul Treu – From fifth to second place and won the title the following year.
- Coached at Stormers and WP with Rassie Erasmus (senior, junior and women teams) – WP achieved a semi- final in Currie Cup for first time in 10-years and our first Super Rugby final.
- 2010/2011 – The Italian National Team with Nick Mallet and Jacque Brunel – First time in history beat France and Ireland in the 6 Nations.
- 2012-2014 EP Kings and Southern Kings Super Rugby Debut – Were the most successful debutants to the series in history of the Super Rugby competition. The EP Kings won the Absa Currie Cup First Division (2012)
- Finally, coached Pro12 and Heineken Cup with Alan Solomons – Best season on debut in 10-years in league and Heineken Cup. First time win of 1872 Cup which is oldest derby in world rugby.“The vast experience Mouneimne brings to the Union will surely enhance the future of the Steval Pumas brand and we are excited to have him join a very young and determined management group,” Burger concluded.
