The new look KRU Championship kicks off on Saturday 5 November and apart from serving as the second tier league competition, will also be the qualification pathway to next season’s top tier Kenya Cup league.

The 12 team competition will adopt the same format as the Kenya Cup with two pools, home and away as well as crossover fixtures prior to the top six knockout stage.

Six former Kenya Cup sides namely USIU, Catholic Monks, Mombasa, Kisumu, Thika and Bungoma Sharks will all be looking to return to the country’s top league but will have to wary of the imminent threat from the equally ambitious JKUAT, South Coast Pirates, Resolution Kisii, Moi University, University of Eldoret and Kenya Methodist University.
