New Zealand Rugby congratulates Tanerau Latimer on 100th Investec Super Rugby match
Chiefs loose forward Tanerau Latimer is set to join a small club of New Zealand players to notch up 100 Investec Super Rugby matches.
The 27-year-old will become the 31st New Zealander to reach the milestone in Super Rugby after their Round 5 match against the Stormers at Waikato Stadium this evening.
The Bay of Plenty stalwart is one of only a few players to have worn the black jersey for several teams.
New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew said:
“Tanerau is a special player who has already made a great contribution to rugby having played for the All Blacks, All Blacks Sevens and having captained the Maori All Blacks. This is an important milestone for Tanerau and I know he will look forward to another special milestone when he celebrates 100 matches for the Chiefs.”
Latimer debuted for the Crusaders in 2006 but the majority of his Super Rugby career has been with the Chiefs, with whom he is set to mark 100 matches later this season. He is the third player from a New Zealand team this season to join the centurions club.
Chiefs Coach Dave Rennie acknowledged Latimer’s contribution to the team.
“It’s a fantastic achievement. Tanerau is a massive part of the Chiefs’ culture and has played a huge role in what we have achieved both on and off the field. He is a class act and hugely respected by all.”
New Zealand Rugby Director Bruce Cameron will present a greenstone mere – New Zealand Rugby’s gift to Investec Super Rugby centurions – to Latimer at the conclusion of tonight’s match.
