New Zealand Schools Coach Dave Hewett said his team was a well-balanced side that he expected could be competitive across all positions.
“We have been watching the form of these players right through the season and our recent development camp for the players helped us fine tune our decisions and pick a very strong side. I’m looking forward to seeing how they go against the Australian and Fijian teams.
“It’s fantastic to see players in the squad from schools other than the traditional powerhouses of college rugby. It shows it doesn’t matter where you’re from, talent always shines through.”

New Zealand Barbarians Coach Darren Larsen said the standard of talent in his side demonstrated the depth of talent in college rugby.
“There’s a great mix of players in the team, from players with the x-factor to hard grafters who get in and get the work done.
“We are looking at a pool of talent that is likely to produce our future Super Rugby players and All Blacks – and that’s exciting. We are in for some exciting rugby.”
St Kentigern College prop Sean Paranihi was ruled out of selection due to injury.
