According to The Mercury, The Cell C Sharks board of directors have hit back against foul play after the poor disciple shown by various senior sharks and players in this year’s Super Rugby competition.

Bismarck du Plessis, Frans Steyn and Jean Deysel are all currently serving their bans after being red carded for foul play. The three senior members of the squad are still receiving their salaries while on suspension but this will not happen going forward.

“We have decided that going forward there must be a policy of ‘no play, no pay’ should a player be suspended for foul play,” said Saad, Chairperson of the Cell C Sharks.

Saad said that to enforce this, players being contracted to the union in future would be asked to have the ‘no play, no pay’ clause inserted in their contracts.

Saad said the board had taken legal advice before introducing the new censure, which he said was “appropriate and will have the necessary teeth”.
