North Harbour’s Ethan Roots suspended for one match
North Harbour will play without Ethan Roots in their Bayleys National Sevens bowl semifinal against Bay of Plenty after he was sanctioned for a dangerous tackle.
Roots were red-carded by referee Mike Lash during his team’s 19-12 win over South Canterbury at Rotorua International Stadium this morning.
Roots were sent off after tackling a South Canterbury player in the air.
Judicial Officer Helen Morgan, who heard the case this afternoon, upheld the red card, calling the tackle dangerous but taking into account there was no serious injury to the South Canterbury player, Roots’ good record and his remorse, she deemed a one-match suspension sufficient sanction.
Roots will sit out his team’s bowl semifinal at 2:15 pm but will be eligible to play the Bowl Final if his team qualifies.
