Starting tomorrow, the June long weekend will mark the commencement of the annual Junior State Championships, with over 2,500 youngsters from across NSW taking part.

For juniors aged 14 to 17, the three-day events is the first step on the representative pathway and there supporting the budding future Tahs will be some of NSW’s current stars, who will be on hand to offer encouragement and in some cases, present trophies to the winning teams.

From tomorrow (Saturday June 7), the Manly Roos Junior Rugby Club will host around 300 enthusiastic Under 11s, who will be cheered on by Tah Man and towering Tah Greg Peterson at Keirle Park. Camden Rugby Club will see nearly 400 Under 12s from 17 teams in action over three days, supported and encouraged along the way by NSW’s dynamic duo Peter Betham and Alofa Alofa.

At the same time, in the Under 13s age group, well over 350 are expected to travel to Newcastle to experience and participate in the first State Championship to be held in the region, hosted by the Wanderers Rugby Club.

Central West Juniors in Orange will host the Under 14s Championship, with the young ARU scholarship referees officiating the tournament. This year will also see the Under 14s play their final matches in Orange, rather than travelling back to Sydney.

Tolu Latu and Matt Lucas will be amongst those on hand at Drummoyne Juniors for the Under 15s Championship, which is being held as part of the Canada Bay Council Festival of Rugby. Drummoyne Oval will see the finals action across the 15s, 16s and 17s age groups, with all events culminating in finals on Monday, June 9. Also dropping in to keep a watch on the action will be Pat McCutcheon, Jeremy Tilse, Jono Lance and Tala Gray.

Later in the month, the Under 10s State Carnival will take place on Sunday June 29 at Narrabeen, where youngsters will also enjoy the chance to meet Tah Man.
