Oakland Dairies named as title sponsor for World Schools Festival
Adding more local flavour, Oakland Dairies have been named as title sponsor to the much-anticipated World Schools Festival in Paarl between 3-7 April.
The week-long rugby competition will be known as the Oakland World Schools Festival with the inaugural tournament forming part of Paarl Boys’ High School’s 150-year anniversary celebrations.
The festival will feature the top 10 schools in South Africa and 10 of the best school teams from around the world
The new partnership will see the launch of the Oakland Cup, a Ryder Cup-style contest between South Africa and the Rest of the World.
The format ensures that each match counts, where two points will count towards a win and a draw is worth one point.
The collated points will determine the winner of the Oakland Cup which will add an extra incentive when the South African sides take on teams from abroad.
Former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer and Managing Director of Carinat Sports Marketing believes that securing Oakland Dairies as title sponsor has boosted the festival to the next level.
“Hosting a world-class unique new tournament like the Oakland World Schools Festival would not be possible without the generous support from our sponsors”, said Meyer.
“We would like to welcome Oakland Dairies on-board and we look forward to creating a platform for our future rugby heroes with their help.”
Meyer added, “Kicking off the Oakland Cup next week adds an exciting new dimension to this festival of rugby.”
The Oakland World Schools Festival will see some of the most promising schoolboy talents on display which will include South African teams such as Affies, Boland Landbou, Glenwood, Monument, Grey College, Outeniqua, Oakdale, Paarl Boys’s High and Hilton College.
Ten teams from five continents with sides from New Zealand, England, Italy, the United States, Australia, Namibia and Argentina will make up the international contingent.
Oakland is a Western Cape-based dairy with the factory based in Phillipi, Cape Town, sourcing its milk from local farmers supporting not only the South African Agriculture Industry but local communities as well.
“We are delighted to be the first ever title sponsors of this inaugural event, and are very excited about the launch of the Oakland Cup,” said Ian van Niekerk, CEO and Owner of Oakland Dairies.
“We are a proudly South African company and believe in supporting and investing in our local community.
“It is with that in mind that it made sense to partner with the World Schools Festival bringing world-class schools rugby to our shores.”
