OFFICIAL RBS 6 NATIONS FANTASY RUGBY GAME LAUNCHED
The RBS 6 Nations have launched an Official Fantasy Rugby game for the first time, giving rugby fans the chance to engage with Rugby’s Greatest Championship in a new way through the official site.
The game, developed in partnership with French company Feeling Sports, launched earlier this week and has already enjoyed strong interest from fans with thousands signing up to play.
The game may feel a little different to English speaking fans. It was developed by a French company and its core philosophy is to give the user a simple and enjoyable experience.
Shane Whelan, Digital Communications Manager for Six Nations Rugby, expects the game to be a hit with fans both this season and into the future.
He said: “We believe this is a great addition to Rugby’s Greatest Championship – a completely new way for fans to enjoy the RBS 6 Nations.
“The game is simple, easy to get involved in, enjoyable to interact with, but sophisticated as well.
‘Working with Feeling Sports has been a fantastic experience and we look forward to a successful take off for this game.’
Started by a trio of sports fans frustrated with what was available at the time, Feeling Sports began creating fantasy games in 2008. Since then, their aim has been to bring a slightly unconventional touch to game design.
Feeling Sports Founder and CEO François Grenet’s aim was first and foremost for the game to be fun, with fans encouraged to create their own narratives on Social Media.
Additional features like the ability to post graphics of their team and ‘news’ stories and other content into Facebook give players another way to tap into that vital motivation for fantasy gamers – the desire to beat your friends – and let them know all about it.
Grenet explained: ‘We wanted to keep the game friendly and easy to use for all while giving a more intense experience of RBS 6 Nations game for fans. To do well, you have to follow the matches closely and you can also create your own story-lines around the event on social media.’
The game features a number of innovative points scoring methods. How do you go about winning at Fantasy games? Grenet’s advice might well apply to Joe Schmidt, Eddies Jones or Guy Novès : ‘For Fantasy Games, your success is based on your ability to take risks at the right time. The key is to make the right move at the right time in the tournament in order to separate yourself from the rest. Knowledge of rugby is also very important!’
Just like the real thing.
