ORC Griquas looking to extend lead in Absa Currie Cup Qualifiers

The ORC Griquas will be looking to capitalise on the inactivity of the Leopards this weekend and hopefully extend their slender lead at the top of the Absa Currie Cup Qualifier log when they clash with the Down Touch Griffons on Saturday in Kimberley.

The encounter at GWK Park will kick-off at 15h15 and will be televised live on SuperSport 1.

Griquas, sitting on 11 points from three matches, have just one point more than second-placed Leopards on top of the standings in the race for that crucial qualifying spot to the Absa Currie Cup Premier Division.  Griquas defeated the high-flying Leopards last week in a high-scoring affair to topple them from top spot on the log and they should run out as favourites against Griffons.

The round four action gets underway on Friday evening in George and East London respectively.

Third-placed Border have made a perfect start to their campaign so far by winning both of their clashes. On Friday evening the East London team will aim for a third successive win when they host the Hino Valke who are sixth on the log. The Kempton Park team did score their first win last weekend at home against struggling SWD when a late try by wing Coert Cronje clinched the win for them after the teams were locked at 17-all.

Border have grabbed the attention so far with deserved victories over Griquas and Boland and the Bulldogs are approaching the evening clash with a lot of confidence. Fullback Masizole Banda was in fine form against the Boland last weekend and he will again be the danger man in the Border backline.

Cape neighbours SWD Eagles and the Boland Cavaliers clash at 19h00 in George in the other tie on Friday. Winless after three attempts, the Eagles will be under pressure to record their first success of the qualifiers at Outeniqua Park.
