With round 4 of the Port Natal night series underway saw the Glenwood and Westville 1st XV Team combine to produce a wonderful advert for schoolboy Rugby. Much was expected of this game with both teams being highly rated this season and the game between the two powerhouse teams was face paced. Glenwood did really well at the breakdowns to secure ball and first arriving defensive support players was evident throughout the game. Glenwood were under pressure at the lineout’s but held off well from the Charging Westville forwards. Donovan Du Rand (13) rounded of a good passage of play for Glenwood as the half was coming to close crossing over the try line. The try was converted by Jerome Bossr. With the scores at 7-0 going into the game. Glenwood held strong within their forwards with defense and they worked well with their pacy backline which made good use of kick-ahead’s.
Glenwood were more consistent in the second half and were rewarded through a try by Dylan Weideman (5) who touched down, after a clever little chip by Jerome Bossr which put the Westville defence on the back foot. Bossr converted to take the lead to 14-0.
With time up on the clock, Westville counter attacked from a turnover ball close to their try line and scored a great try having run the length of the field. The try was converted and the final score stood at 14-7 to Glenwood.
Both teams played with passion and in good spirit and showed the type of talent of the teams in the upcoming KZN Season.
