Following last night’s mail, herewith the latest updates from Qantas Airways regarding last night’s returned flight to Johannesburg:
Qantas Airways – Second Update: 16 July 2011 at 11:08
Providing an update on flight QF64 – 15 July 2011, Qantas Airways spokesperson Olivia Wirth commented:
“Qantas has done everything possible to get passengers to their destination as quickly as possible and made their extended stay in Johannesburg as comfortable as possible.
“There was no safety issue with last night’s flight. As safety is Qantas’ number one priority, the aircraft returned to Johannesburg as a precautionary measure. The Boeing 747 has four engines and can safely fly on three engines.
“Qantas has sent a new aircraft to Johannesburg today to accommodate passengers that were scheduled for Sydney. All passengers will receive their original seat numbers and the flight will carry the same flight number, QF64.
“The new aircraft is scheduled to land in Johannesburg at 20:00 this evening and is scheduled for departure at 23:15 tonight, with an estimated arrival in Sydney at 19:05 on the 17th of July (Australian time).
“All passengers have been consulted throughout the process and have been accommodated in hotels close to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and provided meals. Qantas Airways staff are available to passengers and more information is available on the Qantas Airways website – www.qantas.com.au.
