Qantas Wallabies Join Fans for Bledisloe Cup Festival
There’s one month to go until the Bledisloe Cup Festival kicks off, which will give rugby lovers of all ages the chance to meet their past and present Wallabies heroes, with a range of community activities planned from 6-20 August 2016 including the must-visit Bledisloe Bay Fan Event at Coogee, NSW.
The Bledisloe Cup Festival launches with the Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday 6 August, where fans can buy tickets to an all-inclusive luncheon featuring special guests from the rugby and racing fraternities including leading horse trainer Bjorn Baker.
Then on Sunday 14 August, the Qantas Wallabies will head to Coogee Oval for some fun and games with their fans. The free event offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Wallabies supporters to meet their idols before they launch their 2016 Bledisloe Cup campaign.
Qantas Wallabies scrumhalf Nick Phipps said: “We love spending time with our fans. We always try and make them proud whenever we pull on the gold jersey, so it will be really special to be able to spend time with fans before a Test match.”
“Support from the Australian rugby community really lifts the team, so we hope to see as many young girls and boys down at Coogee as possible. They’re the ones we’ll be hoping to inspire when we run onto the ANZ Stadium field for that first Bledisloe match against the All Blacks.”
The next Bledisloe Cup Festival event – the Women in Business & Rugby Lunch – is dedicated to recognising the vital role that women play in the rugby community, both in Australia and New Zealand. Guests of honour include ARU board members Ann Sherry AO and Liz Broderick AO who are some of Australia’s most influential women.
The final event of the Bledisloe Cup Festival is the Classic Wallabies Golf Day at Manly Golf Club on Friday 19 August, where anyone can book to play a round of golf with a former Wallaby, with all proceeds raised going to the Classic Wallabies charity.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said, “The Bledisloe Cup Festival is one of the highlights on our Major Events Calendar, and has been secured for the State by the NSW Government, through our tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.”
“There is so much on offer in this year’s Festival, and I encourage all fans to get to Sydney to be a part of this annual spectacle, celebrating all that is great about rugby and the Bledisloe Cup.”
