Queensland Premier Rugby returns for Round 16 tomorrow as the 2017 finals series draws ever closer, with just three regular season fixtures remaining.

The Game of the Round will this week see Sunnybank host GPS at Oldmac Oval in a second-v-third playoff. Liam McNamara has been released from Australian Sevens duties to feature at fullback for the Dragons alongside St.George Queensland Reds squad member Jake McIntyre, while Nick Frisby and Radike Samo will feature for the Gallopers.

The match will be LIVE streamed via both Facebook LIVE and www.redsrugby.com.au.

The first-v-fourth clash between University of Queensland and Easts will also be LIVE streamed via www.redsrugby.com.au. Reds flanker Michael Gunn will return for the Tigers this Saturday, joining Queensland and Australian U20s flanker Liam Wright in the back row.

Lachlan Maranta will start at outside center for Wests in their clash against Bond University on the Gold Coast. Australian U20s representatives Angus Blyth, Harry Nucifora and Dylan Riley will all turn out for Bond.

The fourth and final match of the round will see Brothers host Souths at Crosby Park, with both clubs desperate for a win to keep their finals hopes alive.

The semi-finals of the Brisbane Premiership Women’s competition will also take place this Saturday, with Redlands Mudcrabs hosting both the minor and major semi-finals. Sunnybank will face off against the University of Queensland in the major semi-final, while Redlands will tackle Wests in the minor.

A total of seven players from the Wallaroos Rugby World Cup squad will be in action, including captain and Olympic Australian Women’s Sevens Gold Medalist Shannon Parry, who will feature for Redlands. Read more here: http://bit.ly/2tl80yq

The Dragons host the Gallopers at Oldmac Oval this Saturday in Queensland Premier Rugby’s Game of the Round. Both sides secured impressive wins last weekend with Sunnybank defeating Easts 50-24 and GPS knocking off Bond University 41-16. Last time the two met, GPS won 17-15 with flyhalf AJ Alatimu slotting a conversion from the sideline to win it. The match has an interesting makeup with Sunnybank’s back line being considered their biggest strength while GPS have a formidable forward pack. UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND VS EASTS | LIVE STREAM – St Lucia, 3:20 pm

The Red Heavies welcome the Tigers to St Lucia in a highly anticipated clash. Easts are currently clinging onto fourth place and UQ remains undefeated at the top of the table. Last time they met, UQ scored a try in the dying stages to steal victory 33-29. The Tigers have extra motivation leading into the fixture, as a loss to the Red Heavies could see them slip out of the top four. A huge task awaits Easts with UQ still improving as demonstrated by their 87-19 win over Souths last weekend. BOND UNIVERSITY VS WESTS – Bond University RUFC, 3:20 pm

The Bulldogs head to the Gold Coast on the weekend to take on Bond University. The first time the two teams met, in Round 8, it was a close encounter with Wests edging Bond University 25-22. Depending on the Red Heavies and Tigers game, the Bulldogs have a chance to sneak into the top four and replace Easts. However, Bond has a new-look side that was able to pressure GPS early in the first half last weekend but was unable to sustain the pressure. With a few corrections at training during the week, the students have a chance to shock a hungry Bulldogs side.

BROTHERS VS SOUTHS – Crosby Park, 3:20 pm

The Brethren take on the Magpies at Crosby Park this Saturday in a sixth-v-seventh clash. Brothers have been disappointing this year, producing just four wins and only showing glimpses of their 2016 Hospital Cup winning form. The last time the two met, Brothers were victorious 35-24 at Chipsy Wood Oval. Interestingly, that is the Brethren’s most recent victory. The Mapgies will be looking to regain their mid-season form after losing their last three and will challenge Brothers if they can field their full strength side.
