RBS 6 Nations 2017- Disciplinary update – France vs Wales
1. Virimi Vakatawa
A Six Nations disciplinary hearing was held on Thursday to consider the accumulation of a yellow card and Citing Commissioner Warning issued to France winger Virimi Vakatawa in the RBS 6 Nations match between France and Wales at the weekend.The independent Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Kathrine Mackie (Scotland), along with Pamela Woodman (Scotland) and David Martin (Ireland), carefully considered submissions from the player and all the evidence, including video footage of both incidents, the yellow card for a so-called ‘technical’ offence (a deliberate knock-on) and the CCW (for a high tackle). The Disciplinary Committee concluded that although the player had been guilty of both acts of foul play, no further sanction was necessary. The Disciplinary Committee took into account World Rugby’s sanctions guidance for the accumulation of yellow cards and CCWs which says in relevant part: ‘The … The committee may decide that … no further sanction is appropriate … [where] any of the Temporary Suspensions were awarded for so-called technical offences … not involving a breach of Law 10.4’.
The player is able to resume playing immediately.
2. Yohann Maestri
Following an investigation, Six Nations Rugby has commenced a misconduct complaint against France vice-captain, Yohann Maestri, following comments made by him to representatives of the media about the referee following the same match. A disciplinary hearing will now be convened by the Chair of the Six Nations Disciplinary Panel, Professor Lorne Crerar.
3. Investigation into replacements
Six Nations Rugby is continuing its investigation into replacements made in the latter stages of the same match.
