The International Rugby Board has announced the panel of referees for the 2014/15 HSBC Sevens World Series, which kicks off in the Gold Coast on October 11.

With the Series doubling as Olympic Games qualification, there will be unprecedented interest in the race to Rio 2016 with the top four teams qualifying.

The nine rounds that comprise the 2014/15 Series also provide the chance for the referees to book their place at Rio 2016 through clear and consistent officiating and the highest standards of physical preparation.

A core group of four referees will officiate at all nine tournaments (Federico Anselmi, Richard Kelly, Anthony Moyse and former Scotland Sevens Star Mike Adamson), while the entire panel has nearly 1000 matches of Sevens officiating experience between them.

IRB High Performance Sevens Referee Manager Paddy O’Brien said: “We are about to enter a very exciting season for Rugby Sevens with qualification beginning for men’s and women’s teams.”

“Like the teams, we are building as a group towards our pinnacle event at Rio 2016 and our mission is to ensure that we arrive there with our referees in the best shape they have ever been.”

“We have selected a very experienced panel that the teams are well accustomed to and we continue to strive for clear and consistent decision making.”
