Regent Boland Kavaliers start Currie Cup with impressive victory over Border
The Regent Boland Kavaliers enjoyed a great start to the Absa Currie Cup First Division at the Boland Stadium in Wellington today with a very impressive 69-12 victory over the Border Bulldogs. The halftime score was 31-12 for the Kavaliers.
The Kavaliers scored 9 tries in the process with Brendon April and Willie le Roux scoring two tries each. Elgar Watts slotted 11 kicks from 11 attempts at goal, which included 9 conversions and 2 penalties.
It all started in the sixth minute when the evergreen scrumhalf and captain of the home team Bolla Conradie intercepted the ball on the halfway line to score the first try of the match.
Tries from Clemen Lewis and Danwell Demas followed soon after for Boland, where after Ntabeni Dukisa of Border open the scoring for the visiting team with a good five pointer. Dukisa’s try was converted by flyhalf Dale Sabbagh.
Boland were awarded a penalty try after fullback Willie le Roux got tackled without the ball on his way to the tryline, but Border’s Eighthman Roy Bursey had the last say of the first half with a good try.
Willie le Roux got his first of two tries two minutes in to the second half, with the other second half tries being scored by Boland’s Cornal Hendricks and replacement wing Brendon April (2 tries).
