The charges against Ben Franks of London Irish and Charlie Beech of Yorkshire Carnegie for striking an opponent contrary to Law 10.4(a) were heard today via teleconference. The players pleaded guilty and were each given a one-week suspension.

Franks and Beech were red carded by referee Matthew Carley in the second leg of the Greene King IPA Championship Final for striking each other.

The incident occurred in the 71st minute of the match.

Dr Julian Morris chairing the panel as sole Judicial Officer said: “In relation to my review of the footage involving both players, I conclude, on balance, that neither player struck the head of the other.  Had I found, on balance, that either player had connected with the head, this would have merited a mid-range entry point as per the new sanction table imposed on 3 January 2017. However given my findings above, I conclude that the entry point for both players is low end.”

Both players are free to play again on Monday 14 August 2017 and will miss the first pre-season game for their respective clubs.

Full judgement and footage of the incident will be available on this link in the next few days: http://www.englandrugby.com/governance/discipline/judgments-document-search/
