RICHIE ARNOLD JOINS WESTERN FORCE
The Western Force has added significant size to its forward pack for 2016 with the recruitment of Queensland Country lock Richie Arnold.
Arnold, identical twin to ACT Brumbies and Wallabies lock Rory Arnold, stands at a towering 208cm and 127kg – seven kilograms heavier than his brother.
The 25-year-old – who would rank as the equal second tallest player in Asteron Life Super Rugby history, alongside his brother and former Stormers lock, Andries Bekker, and only behind Lions lock JP du Preez (209cm) – will join the Force as part of the club’s Wider Training Squad, as he looks to push for his Asteron Life Super Rugby debut in 2016.
“I’m really excited about starting with the Force,” he said. “I’ve met a few of the guys and it seems like the group is really tight and there’s a great culture here.
“I did have a thought that this opportunity may have passed me by, so to now get that chance makes you really determined and motivated to make the most of it.”
Western Force Head Coach Michael Foley says Arnold has the potential to make a mark on Asteron Life Super Rugby.
“At 208cm, what stood out about Richie during this year’s NRC was his athleticism and skill,” he said.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for him to capitalise on his raw talent. He has the ability to develop into a player that can make a real impact in Super Rugby.”
