SA Rugby nominated for two Discovery Sport Industry Awards 2017
#LoveRugby and the HSBC Cape Town Sevens will contest the highly-anticipated Discovery Sports Industry Awards for 2017 after SA Rugby landed two nominations on Friday.
The ground-breaking #LoveRugby campaign, featuring the Springboks, was nominated in the category for Campaign of the Year, and the highly successful HSBC Cape Town Sevens is one of six nominees in the category for Best Live Experience.
The Discovery Sports Industry Awards 2017 is set to take place on Thursday, 18 May at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The annual ceremony celebrates the best work in the business of South African sport and showcases all the outstanding events of the 2016 calendar year.
Last year, SA Rugby launched the #LoveRugby campaign in an effort to promote rugby amongst all South Africans. The popular campaign attracted huge traction on social and traditional media platforms alike, with several videos, which included a unique look at Springbok coach Allister Coetzee’s first squad assembly, setting the local Twitter and Facebook scenes alight.
The sold-out HSBC Cape Town Sevens proved why it’s fast becoming one of the most popular events in the country when 108,941 spectators streamed through the gates over two days last December.
The broader rugby family attracted several other nominations. Blue Label Telecoms was named in the Best New Sponsorship category for its sponsorship of the Springboks, while DHL was listed amongst the candidates for its associate sponsorship of the HSBC Cape Town Sevens.
Brightrock got the nod for its associate sponsorship of Western Province Rugby, as well as being shortlisted for the Best Sponsorship of a Team or Individual award, where they will be up against Toyota for their sponsorship of the Free State Cheetahs.
