SA Rugby Youth Weeks launches into full swing
- U13 Coca-Cola Craven Week and U16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week kicks off in Paarl
- National Girls U18 Week begins in Kimberley
The Under-13 Coca-Cola Craven Week and Under-16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week tournaments will kick off at Paarl Gymnasium on Monday in a fresh and exciting new tournament format as part of the SA Rugby Youth Weeks Series.
The competitions will be hosted simultaneously from Monday to Friday, with four fields accommodating the 19 matches being played on the opening day.
Only the Under-13 teams will be in action on Tuesday and Thursday, while the Under-16 teams will take to the field on Wednesday. The U13 and U16 sides will again share the stage on Friday in a jam-packed final day.
Another SA Rugby Youth Weeks tournament, the National Girls Under-18 Week, meanwhile, will also kick off on Monday at the Northern Cape High School in Kimberley.
Four U13 Coca-Cola Craven Week matches will kick off the new festival of rugby on all four fields at Paarl Gymnasium at 09h30 on Monday, with the TW Profile Services Valke taking on Eastern Province, Namibia going up against KwaZulu-Natal, Griquas meeting Zimbabwe, and the Forever Resorts Limpopo Blue Bulls battling it out with Border.
These matches will be followed by the opening round of U16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week matches at 10h30, which will see the DHL Western Province XV taking on the Griffons, the Valke meeting the Boland XV, Border going up against the Leopards, and Border CD lining up against Old Mutual Zimbabwe.
In the top clashes of the day in the U13 Coca-Cola Craven Week, hosts, DHL Western Province, who took top honours in the competition last year, will take on the Pumas, while Boland, who secured a place in the final match last season, will take on the Leopards.
In the main clashes in the U16 Coca-Cola Grant Khomo Week, the Bidvest Golden Lions, who emerged as the top team last season, will meet the Konica Minolta Free State, while hosts DHL Western Province will go up against Boland in a Western Cape derby.
Other exciting matches in the U16 tournament will see KwaZulu-Natal, who also featured in the final match in Oudtshoorn last year, meeting the Pumas, and the Blue Bulls taking on their sister union, the Limpopo Blue Bulls.
Meanwhile, the National Girls Under-18 Week will kick off in Kimberley on Monday, with the Leopards meeting the Valke and Free State taking on KwaZulu-Natal in the opening matches at 10h00.
In the big match-ups of the day, Western Province will meet Eastern Province, while Border will go up against the Blue Bulls.
The teams will play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with Tuesday and Thursday being rest days.
