After almost five years as SANZAR’s Chief Executive Officer, Greg Peters has announced his resignation to take up a new role as General Manager of Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR), including the new Super Rugby franchise.

Mr Peters joined the organisation in 2010, establishing SANZAR’s first independent office following CEO experience at Wellington Rugby and the Hurricanes. Prior to that, Mr Peters held senior management roles with New Zealand Rugby over an eight-year term.

“I would like to thank the SANZAR unions and the Executive Committee for their support over the last five years which has seen us achieve a broad range of positive outcomes for the organisation and its member unions,” Mr Peters said.

“This is the right juncture to seek a new professional opportunity, having agreed the new structure of Super Rugby with the national unions, signing a new joint venture agreement between the four unions and securing broadcast arrangements for the next five years, which when announced shortly, will indicate a strong uplift across all territories and provide the means for our stakeholders to continue investing in rugby.

“I am proud of my team for what they have achieved in a challenging environment and wish them every bit of success in 2016 and beyond, and look forward to remaining part of these magnificent competitions in my new capacity.

SANZAR Chairman, Mark Alexander, added “SANZAR thanks Mr Peters for his tireless work over the past five years. Our competitions and financial position have benefited from his strategic leadership and we wish him well for this exciting new chapter.”

SANZAR will imminently commence the process for considering a replacement for Mr Peters, who will remain in the role until an appropriate and mutually agreed date is decided for his conclusion with the organisation.
