The Tag Rugby® Association has for 21 years been involved in promoting the growth of rugby, physical activity and sport in communities all over South Africa. After the British & Irish Lions Tour to South Africa in 2009, as title partner to The Lions, HSBC partnered with the Association for the next 4 years.

This week’s events that are going to be hosted by SARU, HSBC and the Tag Rugby®  Association shows an ongoing relationship that will develop especially in light of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series being hosted by the City of Cape Town for the first time.

“It is fantastic to have international companies like HSBC willing to assist us with our work in communities. There are many opportunities for us to change the lives of children, by getting them involved in Tag programmes. Our programmes also provide employment opportunities for unemployed adults to become Tag Rugby® coaches on our Adopt a School and Adopt a coach programmes,” commented Stuart McConnell from the Association. “Tag Rugby® look forward to continuing this relationship with HSBC in the coming years:”

The Tag Rugby® Clinic on Wednesday saw 10 community schools descending on the Hamiltons Rugby Club fields in Greenpoint to enjoy a Tag Rugby® clinic and then played Tag Rugby® games with some International Sevens stars from USA, Kenya and Fiji. Not only was HSBC involved in the Wednesday clinic but they have committed to supporting the Tag Rugby® Adopt a School Programme and have adopted Pro Ed  House School. Pro Ed House School which is an exceptional learning environment for children with learning differences. These children will now be able to enjoy Tag Rugby®  thanks to the kind donation by HSBC. We look forward to hosting their teams at future Tag Rugby® events.

“As a global banking and financial services organisation, we pride ourselves on opening up a world of opportunities for people. Through this continued partnership with Tag Rugby® we can contribute to a positive legacy by investing in youth development and grassroots programmes” commented Andrew Dell, CEO HSBC Africa.  “With the world’s top men’s players taking centre stage for the second round of the new-look HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series this weekend in Cape Town this is the perfect moment to show our commitment to the long term future of the local game.”
