The South African Rugby Union’s (SARU) #HomeGroundAdvantage Rugby World Cup promotional campaign has been nominated in three categories in the Discovery Sports Industry Awards.
The multi-dimensional campaign, which was based on the idea that the Springboks had a nation behind them wherever they played, was listed in the categories for Best Use of Digital Communications in Sport, Creative Activation of the Year and TV Sport Commercial of the Year.
The features of the campaign included unique jersey numbers for the players made up of hundreds of fan selfies, a special piece of South African grass grown from the soils of SA’s 14 provincial unions in the team change room as well as social media campaigns and a television commercial.
SARU CEO Jurie Roux was delighted with the nominations: “It is very pleasing to once again be nominated for the prestigious Discovery Sports Industry Awards,” he said.
“Our #HomeGroundAdvantage campaign achieved the objective of igniting support for the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup and the nominations are a reward for the hard work put in by our various SARU departments and their partners. This is particularly satisfying given how competitive the sport industry has become over the past few years,” Roux concluded.
Among the other rugby-related nominations, Vodacom was shortlisted in the Best Use of PR in a Sport Campaign and the Best Integrated Sports Marketing Campaign sections, while the SA Rugby Legends were nominated in the Sport Development Programme of the Year division for their Vuka Rugby programme.
The winners will be announced at the Sandton Convention Centre on 11 February 2016.
