The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) received confirmation today that SBS will broadcast the Qantas Wallabies Spring Tour Test matches against France (20 November) and England (4 December).

The France and England Test matches will be shown LIVE and in high definition on SBS and will also be streamed online for free via SBS On Demand.

Coverage of the France Test match will kick off on Sunday 20 November at 6.50am (AEDT) with Australia going head-to-head with France, live from the Stade de France in Paris. The broadcast of the England Test will start at 1.25am (AEDT) on Sunday 4 December and sees Australia take on fierce rivals England live from Twickenham Stadium, in a rematch of the fateful 2015 Rugby World Cup pool game.

These Tests and the remaining Spring Tour Tests against Scotland (12 November) and Ireland (27 November) will be broadcast LIVE by beIN Sports, available through Foxtel.

ARU CEO Bill Pulver said: “Although the whole tour won’t be broadcast on free-to-air television, this gives all fans in Australia the opportunity to watch the Tests against France and England, both of which promise to be great games.

“Unfortunately when it comes to Wallabies matches on the Spring Tour, the ARU play no role in the broadcast negotiations as they are negotiated between the home union for each Test and Australian broadcasters.

“It is a disappointing outcome that not all of the Wallabies Spring Tour matches are available on free-to-air television but with all Tests being screened by beIN Sports and the addition of the England and France matches on SBS, there are options available for fans to watch each Test.”

SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp said: “SBS is pleased it can bring the very best of world rugby to Australians free-to-air. Globally, sport is recognized as a way to bring people and communities together – not to mention it is also very much a part of Australia’s DNA. These matches are a great addition to SBS’s already strong summer sporting line-up – which includes the Premier league, A-League, and the NBL”

The Wallabies Spring Tour and Grand Slam tilt started on a positive note when they defeated Wales 32-8 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff last weekend.
