Some 25 players were today released from the Scotland squad back to their clubs, making them available for selection during the fallow week of the RBS 6 Nations championship.

Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby will both welcome nine players back into the fold, with a further seven returning to clubs in England and France.

Of the 33-man squad, eight players have been retained and rested by the national team, six from Glasgow Warriors (Mark Bennett, Fraser Brown, Alex Dunbar, Jonny Gray, Stuart Hogg and Euan Murray), and two from Edinburgh Rugby (front-row forwards Alasdair Dickinson and Ross Ford).

Returning forwards: Adam Ashe, Alex Allan (both Glasgow Warriors), Johnnie Beattie (Castres), Hugh Blake (Edinburgh Rugby), Blair Cowan, Geoff Cross (both London Irish), David Denton (Edinburgh Rugby), Ryan Grant (Glasgow Warriors), Jim Hamilton (Saracens), Rob Harley (Glasgow Warriors), Moray Low (Exeter Chiefs), Alasdair Strokosch (Perpignan), Tim Swinson (Glasgow Warriors), Ben Toolis, Hamish Watson (both Edinburgh Rugby).

Returning backs: Dougie Fife, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne (both Edinburgh Rugby), Peter Horne (Glasgow Warriors), Greig Laidlaw (Gloucester), Sean Lamont, Finn Russell (both Glasgow Warriors), Matt Scott (Edinburgh Rugby), Tommy Seymour (Glasgow Warriors), Greig Tonks, Tim Visser (both Edinburgh Rugby).

Retained and rested players: Mark Bennett, Fraser Brown (both Glasgow Warriors), Alasdair Dickinson (Edinburgh Rugby), Alex Dunbar (Glasgow Warriors), Ross Ford (Edinburgh Rugby), Jonny Gray, Euan Murray and Stuart Hogg (all Glasgow Warriors).
