Sharks crush Leopards
The Sharks scored seven tries against an errant Leopards side to crush them 51-6 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
The Leopards failed to replicate the continuity and physicality that saw them scare the Blue Bulls at Loftus. They made far too many errors and never got on the front foot against the physical Sharks defense.
The Sharks on the other hand looked dangerous every time they spread the ball wide. The Leopards had their hands full with Lwazi Mvovo and Stefan Terblanche.
But it was the dominant Sharks pack that did all the hard work and set up most of the tries. A great combination of speed and power in the Sharks loose trio, with Willem Alberts, Keegan Daniels and Jacques Botes, made for exciting and powerful runs.
The Sharks claimed their four-try bonus point just before half-time while the Leopards had only two penalties to show for their efforts. 32-6 for the Sharks at half-time.
The Sharks followed up the first half with another three tries, including two from captain Stefan Terblanche, while coach John Plumtree cleared his bench and gave all 22 players a run. Poorly officiated scrums did not help much for the flow of the game.
The Leopards’ first try scoring opportunity came midway through the second half, but they were denied by a forward pass as Deon Scholtz dove over in the corner. Their second and last chance came after the hooter but a great tackle from Jacques Botes forced the player out.
Great, clinical team effort from the Sharks while the Leopards disappointed after a great effort the previous week at Loftus.
