Despite an early try from the Southern Kings the Sharks ran in two first half tries and a penalty to take a slender eight point lead at the break, when the two teams met in the opening weekend of Super Rugby.

Southern Kings’ Chris Cloete went over for his team’s first try in the 9th minute as they took a five point lead after a miss conversion from Elgar Watts.

The Sharks, however, scored two tries and a penalty to take a 15 – 8 lead, after Watts added a penalty kick for the Southern Kings in the 28th minute.

The visitors came out firing in the second half as they added another four tries. Willie Le Roux opened the scoring for the visitors in the 42nd minute, followed by tries from Paul Jordaan, Lwazi Mvovo and a second from Odwa Ndungane as the game ended 43 – 8 to the Sharks.

Southern Kings (8) 8 – Try: Chris Cloete. Penalty: Elgar Watts.

Sharks (15) 43 – Tries: Joe Pietersen, Odwa Ndungane, Jean-Luc du Preez, Willie Le Roux, Paul Jordaan, Lwazi Mvovo. Conversions: Pietersen (5). Penalty: Pietersen (1)
