Sharks to face the Blue Bulls
The Sharks vs Vodacom Blue Bulls, Loftus Versveld, Pretoria
Saturday 3 September 2011 – Kick-off at 17:05
Sharks coach John Plumtree has named his side to take on the Blue Bulls at Loftus on Saturday (5pm) and has included Jean Deysel at eighthman in one of three changes to the side that played the Lions last weekend.
The loss of Ryan Kankowski to a broken finger (out for four weeks) has necessitated a rearrangement at the back of the scrum with Jean Deysel starting at eighthman after coming on in the second half against the Lions last week.
Deysel was in outstanding form and together with a player in a similar mould to him and Willem Alberts, young Marcell Coetzee (who was a nominee for Absa Player of the Month in August), together with captain Keegan Daniel on the other flank, they form an imposing attacking trio.
Jan Andre Marais gets his second start, teaming up with Ross Skeate in the second row, while Wiehahn Herbst gets a break with Eugene van Staden starting at tighthead prop. The backline remains unchanged.
Plumtree has named two locks on the bench Anton Bresler and Alistair Hargreaves who returns following a bout of flu that kept him out last week. Kyle Cooper and Jacques Botes round off the compliment of five forwards on the bench – a ploy implemented last week as well with the expectation of another physical match.
The versatile duo of Conrad Hoffmann and Adi Jacobs complete the seven-man bench and will provide depth to the backline.
The Blue Bulls side to play The Sharks has Dewald Potgieter back after missing the last two games with a broken nose while Bjorn Basson and Juandre Kruger are over the ailments that kept them out of last week’s match and they have been named to start as well. Hooker Gary Botha will lead the side.
