‘Sold Out’ sign in sight for HSBC Cape Town Sevens
Only 1 400 tickets remain on sale for the second day of the inaugural HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament to be staged at the Cape Town Stadium on 12 and 13 December, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) confirmed on Wednesday.
The tournament has attracted unprecedented levels of interest for the South African leg of the event with the ‘sold out’ signs expected to be posted well before the tournament arrives.
“We knew there was going to be high demand for the event and are absolutely delighted by the rate of ticket sales at the moment,” said SARU CEO, Jurie Roux.
“With just under two months to go before the event kicks off I would like to urge fans to move swiftly and secure their tickets now to avoid disappointment.”
Roux said that 11 000 tickets were still available for the opening Saturday at the 55 000-seat stadium. It means that only 12 000 tickets remain on sale from the total capacity of 110 000.
Some hospitality packages are still available at R1 850, direct from SARU. Hospitality packages can still be booked by contacting Mingon van Rooyen via email at mingonv@sarugby.co.za or during office hours at +27 21 928 7000.
Roux said: “We are expecting that some of the major stars from 15-a-side rugby will be appearing in Cape Town as part of the preparations for the Rio Olympics to add further excitement.
“We were hopeful of reaching 80% capacity on both days in year one of Cape Town but the response from the rugby public has been fantastic. We saw that immediately with 21 000 tickets sold in the first hour.”
Tickets are available online from www.computicket.com or from Computicket stores or at Computicket outlets at Shoprite and Checkers stores.
