Jaco Peyper to referee Junior World Champs final
South Africa’s Jaco Peyper, one of the country’s best up and coming referees, has been appointed to officiate the final of the IRB’s Junior World Championship between New Zealand and England in Italy on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Peyper, who made his debut in Vodacom Super Rugby in 2008, has been the South African referee representative in Italy for the past few weeks.
“We’re very proud of Jaco and it’s great to see him rewarded not only for his superb performances at the Junior World Champs, but also in Vodacom Super Rugby this year,” said André Watson, Manager of the South African Rugby Referees Association.
“It is great to see that our young referees are starting to come through the ranks and I think it’s safe to say we have a bright future in this regard.”
Peyper was involved as match official in five matches at the Junior World Championships, including as Assistant Referee in both semi-finals in Treviso on Tuesday. New Zealand U20 beat their Australian counterparts by 37-7, while England’s U20s eliminated France by 33-18.
The final will take place at the Stadio Plebiscito in Padova on 26 June.
South Africa U20 will face Fiji in the playoff match for fifth position, at 14:10 on 26 June at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo in Treviso.
