Cape Town, South Africa, February 2012 – Springbok and Stormers player Schalk Burger has extended his contract with PUMA beyond 2015.

Burger, known as ‘Schalla’ to his PUMA family, first signed with the sportlifestyle brand in 2005 – immediately after he was named IRB Rugby Player of the Year. Signing a player of Burger’s stature was a major statement by PUMA and kicked off the development of the company’s rugby business in South Africa.

“PUMA is very happy to reaffirm our relationship with Schalla,” says PUMA South Africa’s Marketing Director Brett Bellinger. “PUMA signed Schalk in 2005 and he has spearheaded the development of our rugby portfolio ever since. His influence on and off the field is significant and this has assisted us in creating a rugby business that includes a host of top-flight players and new talent, as well as teams including the Vodacom Bulls and Blue Bulls, the Toyota Cheetahs and Free State Cheetahs and the Southern Kings and EP Kings. PUMA looks forward to an exciting new period with Schalla and we wish him all the best for 2012.”

Burger will continue to wear PUMA boots on the field and lifestyle product off the field, and is currently sporting PUMA’s Esito H8 boots.

Burger says: “I have been with PUMA for 7 years now and cannot fault their support and dedication to me on both a personal and professional level. The quality of their product is always of the highest standard and I am looking forward to continuing the association.”
