Three Springboks visited the CMR Derdepoort day-care centre in Pretoria on Tuesday where they donated R15,000 from their internal players’ fund to this non-profit organisation for children, families and communities in need.
The Springboks are currently in Pretoria where they are preparing to face Argentina in the opening Test of the 2014 Castle Lager Rugby Championship at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 16 August (kick-off 17h00).
The players decided which organisation to support and Bakkies Botha, Jan Serfontein and Trevor Nyakane visited the kids at the day-care centre to make the donation on Tuesday morning.
The day-care centre is one of the projects run by CMR North, of which Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is the custodian.
“As Springboks, it’s always very special to be able to give back to people who are not as fortunate as we are,” said Botha.
“These kids also have hopes and dreams and to see the wonderful work done by CMR is very humbling. It would be very special if we can make a difference in the life of only one of these children.
“We want to thank them for the opportunity to visit the day-care centre and wish them well for the future.”
CMR Derdepoort renders services in communities such as Bergtuin, Derdepoort, Jan Niemandpark, Kilnerpark, Koedoespoort, Môregloed, North-East Pretoria, Queenswood, Waverley and Waverley-East.
All these communities are situated in the Tshwane Metropolitan area in Gauteng and most of the people living in these areas are very poor with limited potential to better or upgrade their circumstances.
Their programmes run from Mondays to Fridays every week. The day-care centre moved to new premises where 20 underprivileged toddlers between the ages of three and six years can learn and play every day.
The services in this project have been ongoing for the past 13 years, which include assessments of traumatized children, therapeutic services to these children, foster care and adoptions and are run by specially trained senior social workers.
The CMR projects include feeding schemes, clothing projects, pre-school development and job creation. For more information, please contact the Anja le Cornu 082 773 6000 or visitwww.cmrn.co.za.
