The St.George Queensland Reds have confirmed their pre-season schedule ahead of the 2017 Super Rugby season with three events in Brisbane ahead of their first Super Rugby home game on February 24.
The Reds’ calendar of events kicks off with their annual Fan Day at Ballymore Stadium on Friday 3 February. They will then contest the inaugural Brisbane Global Rugby Tens at Suncorp Stadium on February 11-12, before hosting the Melbourne Rebels in a pre-season fixture at Ballymore on Tuesday 14 February.
The St.George Queensland Reds Fan Day
The St.George Queensland Reds Fan Day has been locked-in for February 3 at Ballymore Stadium ahead of the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens and the new Super Rugby season.
The twilight event will run from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, February 3 when the Reds squad will be there to sign autographs and take photos with fans and 2017 Reds members.
For 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm, fans will be able to watch the Reds squad training at Ballymore ahead of the season.
Following training, there will be an opportunity to mingle with Reds recruits and established Reds’ Wallabies as fans get to know their favourite Reds players and coaching staff.
There will be activities for the whole family, including face painting, inflatable Rugby games, jumping castles, competitions along with great music and entertainment. The St.George Rookies2Reds Fun Zone will give fans the chance to test their skills, agility and even challenge some of their favourite players.
There is also the opportunity to see behind the scenes in the Reds’ Ballymore training facility, gym and the locker rooms. The Reds mascot Rusty, the St.George Happy Dragon and Red Dog will all be present and there will also be a number of junior club sign-on stations.
Entry and parking to Fan Day are free, with all of our 2017 merchandise, memberships, food and drinks also available to purchase on the day. The Bar will also be opened for the event.
Brisbane Global Rugby Tens
The Reds will contest the inaugural Brisbane Global Rugby Tens on February 11 and 12, 2017 at Suncorp Stadium. The event, live on Fox Sports in Australia, will feature the ten professional Super Rugby franchises from Australia and New Zealand as well as French powerhouse club Toulon, Japan’s Panasonic Wild Knights, South Africa’s Blue Bulls and the Samoan international team.
The Reds are pooled against Auckland’s Blues, hard-hitting Tama Samoa and Super Rugby’s most successful franchise the Crusaders.
Teams have been drawn into four pools – two pools of four and two pools of three. The top two teams from each pool qualify for knockout play.
“It doesn’t get any tougher, you’ve got the Crusaders, Samoa and the Auckland Blues, three teams that will play very physical and expansive rugby,” Reds head coach Nick Stiles said.
“The good thing for us is we’ll get tested and our defence will get tested and that’s an area we’re really focused on improving. You don’t get a better way to highlight Super Rugby being around the corner than having 14 of the top sides in the world at Suncorp Stadium and in front of our fans.”

Preseason Match
The Reds will play the Melbourne Rebels at 6.30pm on February 14 at Ballymore Stadium in the lead up to the 2017 Super Rugby season.
Despite the appealing Valentine’s Day evening-fixture, there will be no love lost as the Australian rivals look to fine-tune their game plans in the Reds’ final workout before their first Super Rugby fixture 10 days later.
This is the second time the Reds have hosted the Rebels at Ballymore in the last four years, with the 2014 pre-season fixture drawing a passionate crowd of over eight thousand.
St.George Queensland Reds head coach Nick Stiles said: “Pre-season matches are a good opportunity for both the Reds and our fans. Given the playing list we’ve announced for 2017 which has a good balance of experience and youth, it will be good for our squad to get a gauge against high-quality Australian opposition.
“It’s good for the fans too, who get to watch the Reds play a team we don’t play at home in the 2017 Super Rugby season.”
Tickets will be sold at the Ballymore gate for $15 with kids under 14 able to enter the ground for free.
