Please find below a statistical preview of the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup match against Namibia in Auckland on Thursday.
South Africa and Namibia have met only once before. South Africa won the match 105-13 – the Springboks’ second highest points total and their third biggest win ever – at Newlands in Cape Town in August 2007.
Six Springboks in Thursday’s 22 played in the match at Newlands. They are: Jaque Fourie, Fourie du Preez, Schalk Burger, Bakkies Botha, CJ van der Linde and Ruan Pienaar. Schalk Burger scored three tries at Newlands, while Fourie, Pienaar and Van der Linde also crossed the try line.
This will be South Africa’s 27th test match in RWC tournaments. Of the previous 26, only three were lost for a winning percentage of 88.5%, the best of any participant in this tournament. So far South Africa have scored 102 tries in Rugby World Cup tournaments for a total of 900 points.

PLAYERS’ MILESTONES & RECORDS
- John Smit will captain the Springboks for a world record 82nd time. It will also be his 15th test in RWC tournaments and 10th as captain. John made his RWC debut in 2003 against Uruguay as a replacement hooker. In this match he will extend his Springbok record as the most capped hooker to 94 caps and become the most capped Springbok with 109 Tests.
- Bryan Habana shares the record for most tries in tests for South Africa with Joost van der Westhuizen. Both scored 38 career tries.
- Jaque Fourie holds the Springbok record for most career tries as a centre (27). Following his try against Fiji on Saturday he shares with Bryan Habana the Springbok record of eight tries in RWC tournaments.
- Morne Steyn needs 24 points to reach 400 points in his test career.
- Danie Rossouw has now scored five tries in RWC tournaments to share the Springbok record for most RWC career tries with Juan Smith.
- Schalk Burger is South Africa’s most capped flank forward with 63 tests and shares the Springbok try scoring record for a flank with Juan Smith with 11 tries each.
- Pierre Spies is South Africa’s top try scorer in tests as a No 8 with 7 tries.
- Gurthrö Steenkamp became South Africa’s top try scorer as a prop in tests when he scored his sixth test try against last week against Fiji.

THE COACHES
Peter de Villiers’ match record is as follows: 45 test matches of which 28 were won with 17 losses for a winning percentage of 62.22.
Johan Diergaardt was appointed as Head Coach of Namibia in 2008 and made his test debut against Russia in 2010. In 2010 Namibia won the IRB Nations Cup in Romania, but could only manage 4th place in 2011.

THE REFEREE
George Clancy of Ireland made his International Test debut in the match between South Africa and Italy on 21 June, 2008 in Cape Town. Since then he officiated as referee on three occasions with the Springboks involved. Of the three tests, South Africa have won 2 and lost 1.
