Steval Pumas target third win against Hino Falcons
The Steval Pumas will feel confident walking onto the field this weekend when they come up against the Hino Falcons in Kempton in a SuperSport Rugby Challenge clash on Saturday.
The competition has gotten off to a good start for the Mpumalanga side, who are coming off a 64-8 thrashing of the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias in a rainy Johannesburg this past weekend. Currently sitting third in the North Conference log with two wins out of three (and tied on points with the Vodacom Blue Bulls), the Steval Pumas will be looking to cement their status as a team to be reckoned with.
The Hino Falcons are in good form, having been pipped 28-27 by the top-of-the-log Xerox Golden Lions in their most recent outing.
Steval Pumas coach Brent Janse van Rensburg said that the team has this week been focused on video reviews from the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias match and examinations of how to contain the Hino Falcons.
“Obviously we respect the Valke – they really ran the Lions hard this weekend, and the Lions are a good side. The Valke are certainly a team who keep the ball in hand. They have a lot of areas of the game that test your defence, particularly from the lineout, but we’ve discussed what is necessary to contain them and identified a few opportunities,” said Janse van Rensburg.
He stressed the importance of the players executing their plans properly.
“There certainly is a big challenge ahead this weekend, but the players have the capacity to do what they need to do in this game. We will just need to ensure we arrive on the game day and be prepared to invest and extend ourselves completely into this task. It’s one thing being confident, but it’s another to put in a good performance,” Janse van Rensburg said.
Once again Hennie Skorbinski will be captain, supported by vice Hugo Kloppers.
The match against the Hino Falcons kicks off at 15:00. Keep an eye on the Steval Pumas Facebook page Twitter feed for live score updates from the game.
