This Mother’s Day, the DHL Stormers and adidas will be doing something special to show their moms and the ladies of South Africa how much they care about and appreciate women.

On Saturday, May 9, 2015, the day before Mother’s Day in South Africa, the DHL Stormers will take on the Brumbies at DHL Newlands in limited edition adidas jerseys, inspired by women. Afterwards, five of the players’ Mother’s Day jerseys will be auctioned off via Twitter, with all proceeds going directly to support mother and child charity, Sisters Incorporated.

“Mothers are the glue that holds families together,” said DHL Stormers captain Duane Vermeulen.

“But mothers take on many forms – whether she is your biological mother, grandmother, wife, girlfriend, sister, aunt or friend – the female influence in your life is always there to nurture and protect. This Mother’s Day, we as a team would like to say thank you to all the women in our lives and across the country for all that they do.”

Starting at the kick-off of the match and running until 17h00 on Monday, May 11, the auction will include the actual matchday jerseys of Vermeulen, Siya Kolisi, Damian de Allende, Nic Groom and Schalk Burger.

Fans will be able to bid for these jerseys on Twitter using the @adidasZA handle and the players’ individual bidding hashtags (#bidDuane, #bidSiya, #bidDamian, #bidNic, #bidSchalk), with the highest amount pledged taking each of the one-of-a-kind jerseys. In addition, the fans with the winning bid(s) will also be able to have their jersey signed and personalised by that player.

All the funds raised will go towards helping Sisters Incorporated continue to do the good work that they do for vulnerable women and children in Cape Town.

Established in 1959, Sisters Incorporated is a home for abused women and their children. The ethos of the home is to help women help themselves and to enrich their lives by developing their skillset.

The organisation offers accommodation, counselling and assistance, schooling, access to medical care, skills and training programmes to women and children who would not otherwise be able to access them.

“Sisters Incorporated is a charity which is very close to our hearts. We chose to support them as they make a real difference to the lives of local women and children who are destitute – enriching their lives so that they can live a better life and give back to their communities,” added Vermuelen.

Adrian de Souza, Head of Rugby at adidas South Africa, concluded: “The jerseys will also hold a special touch – each of the players’ shirts will have their mother’s (or mother figure’s) name printed on them, giving them the chance to have a piece of their mother or motherly influence close to them while they take on the Brumbies.”

To bid for your favourite player’s jersey and to support Sisters Incorporated, follow the conversation on Twitter @adidasZA @TheStormers, bidding on each of the jerseys using the #bidDuane, #bidSiya, #bidDamian, #bidNic or #bidSchalk hashtags.

A limited number of these replica jerseys – a collectors’ item – will also be available
